Trustees from Brighton, Clay, Dutch Creek and Marion Townships met for the second consecutive week on Tuesday. The purpose of the session was to continue discussion on the proposed 28E Agreement between the City of Brighton and the Brighton Volunteer Fire Department.
In coordination with County Attorney, John Gish, the trustees went through the proposed agreement and discussed changes to the document. Following these revisions, the trustees from each township approved the document. Gish, who is representing the townships, was then authorized to share the agreement with the cities of Brighton and Pleasant Plain, along with Walnut and Penn Townships in Jefferson County.
During the meeting, Gish was also authorized to reach out to Patrick Callahan, a mediator selected by the City of Brighton. Plans to meet with Callahan are being arranged.
The meeting came one day after the Brighton Volunteer Fire Department rescinded their plan to refuse fire service in Brighton. The department had originally threatened to cut-off service within the city limits by November 30, unless a resolution was reached.
KCII will have more developments on the story as they become official.
