WACO elementary, junior high, and high school students will be showcasing their musical talents this month, with winter concerts scheduled for Sunday, December 4 and Monday, December 5.
Micah Peck, the vocal/band director for WACO High School, encourages the community to attend and enjoy the work put in by the young musicians. “The biggest thing is just supporting the kids.” he said. “Music doesn’t have to be all of your life, but it can be part of your life. Music in this community is pretty important and we are going to do our best to keep the tradition of WACO music at a high level.”
Performances begin at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Junior/Senior High School gymnasium with the fifth grade recorder ensemble. They are followed by the sixth grade band, playing a variety of classical and holiday selections. The fourth, fifth, and sixth grade orchestras wrap up the elementary performances before a short intermission.
Following the intermission, the junior high and high school concert bands will play two songs each. The junior high and high school orchestras will be the next to take the stage, performing their holiday arrangements. WACO Jazz Band is then scheduled to play “Jingle Bell Rock” before the concert choirs conclude the afternoon.
Monday’s concert will feature second, third, and sixth grade vocal performances. That event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Elementary School gymnasium.
