Wayland City Council has approved a new Police Chief. Doug McIntyre, who previously worked as a Henry County Jailer, was offered the position at the council’s most recent meeting on November 16.

McIntyre’s hire comes after the resignation of Dustin Stuelke, which went into effect September 30. Stuelke took on the role in the summer of 2021, preceded by long-time Chief Ron Roth.

The council advertised the position in early October and with the help of Wayland Mayor, Chet Fort, interviewed candidates on November 15. During the transition period, coverage was provided by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

McIntyre starts next week and will be sworn in at the council’s December 7 meeting.
