A pair of KCII area wrestling teams are on the mat in New London today at the Jeremy Fulk Classic. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks are back to action after a pair of quad events to open the regular season this week. The Golden Hawks went 1-2 on Tuesday at English Valleys and 1-2 Thursday at Tipton to start the dual season. Owen Trimpe at 170lbs headlines the Hawks with a perfect 6-0 record on the young season, at 220lbs Terry Bordenave comes into action at 5-1.

This is the first event of the year for the WACO Warriors. Last season, the Warriors were fourth at the Southeast Iowa Superconference championships with departed senior Jonah Clark the headliner, bringing home the SEISC title at 220lbs. Clark was joined at districts by teammates, freshman Gage Samo and freshman Louden Huisenga with Huisenga and Clark advancing to the state tournament in Des Moines, with Clark finishing on the podium as state runner up with a 47-2 season record. Samo is back after going 36-12 last year, so is Huisenga off of a 41-7 campaign, along with Kris Boone who was 31-17 last season.

Those two teams are joined today in New London by BGM, Cedar Rapids Washington and the home Tigers. Action continues all day Saturday at New London High School.
