KCII was able to speak with Senator Grassley and get his thoughts on the end of harvest. Grassley tells KCII news, “First of all, I hope they all had a safe harvest, and I think for the most part I think, we have a very abundant harvest, it’s not the most. Nationwide it’s not the biggest we have ever ha; I think it will be a few hundred million bushels less than last year for corn. I don’t know about soybeans. Just glad that it’s a successful harvest; it just makes a whole year’s work for a farmer worthwhile.” Even with drought conditions this growing season, farmers were still able to harvest an average of 202 bushels per acre — down only 2 bushels per acre compared to last year, according to a November report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Soybean production is forecast to reach 59 bushels per acre, which is 4 bushels per acre less than last year, according to the same report.
