At their regular meeting Tuesday, November 29, the Washington County Board of Supervisors approved a bid for the Riverside Road Safety Milled Rumble Strip Project.

The project will add center-line rumble strips to W61, also known as Riverside Road. Construction will take place on the road between G36 and Riverside City Limits.

Three bids were presented to the board by Washington County Engineer, Jacob Thorius. The board unanimously approved a bid from Iowa Plains Signing Inc. out of Slater. While the original estimate for the project came in at $98,000, the approved bid is for $64,433.30. The project will use Highway Safety Improvement Program Funds, and will be no cost to the county.

Despite 10 working days for the project, Thorius is optimistic that it will be completed sooner. “I would anticipate the whole project [to be] done in about a day, maybe two.” he said. “It will not take them long and they will do it under traffic. Maybe a day for the milling and a day for the paint.”

The project is scheduled to begin on October 23 of next year.
