The Sigourney Savages split a basketball home doubleheader Tuesday night against English Valleys. In the girls’ game, Sigourney trailed 11-10 after one quarter and was down three at halftime. The Savages would be down nine going into the final quarter before losing 42-35. Junior Carly Goodwin put up a game-high 16 points, and senior Rain Barthelman added nine points, three assists and three steals, but it wasn’t enough get Sigourney a third straight win. The Savages instead fall to 2-3.

The boys’ game also saw Sigourney down a point at the end of the first quarter, but the Savages would turn it around to seize a 31-27 lead at the half. Sigourney would pull away with a huge second half to earn a 65-42 victory, thanks largely to a balanced offensive attack. Senior Ty Shafranek poured in a game-high 20 points to lead the Savages. Senior Karson Weber piled up the points as well with 18 and five rebounds, while sophomore Isaac Burns controlled the paint with 11 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots. Sigourney improves to 3-1 in boys’ basketball. Both Savage teams will next play tomorrow night at Belle Plaine
