In Columbus Junction, the Christmas Angels Program provides less-fortunate families with gifts for their children during the holiday season. With the December 17 deadline approaching, they are still seeking volunteers to support the cause.
26 children have yet to be adopted, and willing community members can sponsor a child by selecting one of the tags on the tree located at the Economart in Columbus Junction. Each tag includes information about the child, as well as gift ideas. Once gifts have been purchased, they can be brought to Deese’s Thirsty Camel from 5-8 p.m. until the deadline on Saturday. If participants are unable to shop, monetary donations are being accepted at Community Bank.
Program Organizer Aurelia Torres, hopes to continue the history of success of Christmas Angels by getting the remaining children adopted. “Since we have stepped in, there has never been a child that has gone unadopted. We’re kind of getting a little worried because we are getting to the crunch time.” she said. Torres went on to show gratitude for those who have already helped with the program this year. “At some point in time in all of our lives we need a little bit of help, and I’m glad we are able to provide this for one another.”
