On December 13, the Iowa Transportation Commission approved $7,901,027 in funding for 30 different projects in the state. As part of the Iowa Traffic Safety Improvement Program, $500,000 of those funds were awarded to Washington County.

At Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, County Engineer Jacob Thorius provided his quarterly report, then spoke on plans for the grant money. “We submitted for a grant to pave shoulders on G36 from Redwood Avenue to Highway 218,” he said. “That will help cover those costs”.

While the funds aren’t available until the 2024 fiscal year, they will cover most of the costs for the project, which is projected at $789,254. The project can commence once the funds are received, and is expected to take a month or two to complete.
