A 17-year old from Brighton has been charged with one count of first-degree robbery in connection with an armed robbery in Des Moines that resulted in two deaths.

Evidence shows that four people agreed to meet at MacRae Park in Des Moines on Monday to complete a transaction. One of the four, identified as 22-year old D’Anthony Coleman of Ottumwa, was shot and killed as the transaction became a robbery.

Police were able to track one of the vehicles believed to be linked to the robbery to the 2800 block of Southeast 10th Street in Des Moines. Upon knocking on the door of the residence, a gunshot was heard from inside. Some residents then ran from the home, telling police someone had shot themselves. Once inside, police discovered an 18-year-old male, dead from a suspected suicide.

The individual from Brighton remains the only one charged in the incident. According to the Des Moines Police Department, they are not looking for anybody else at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
