Southtown, a residential and recreational development near Kalona has been in the works for over three years. City Administrator for Kalona, Ryan Schlabaugh is looking forward to continuing the progress in the new year.

“We think spring of ’23 is going to be really busy for us again on the home-building side,” Schlabaugh said. “We’ve got a lot of preliminary designs [and] preliminary plans that we’ve seen as we work with homebuilders [and] we work with potential buyers.”

Located south of 133rd Street just east of Highway 1, Southtown will ultimately include four different components available for residents. The North Ridge Subdivision includes single-family and two-family lots, with sixteen homes already built. Large acreage lots ranging from over one to four plus acres will make up the Incline Grove Estates and Villa-style homes will be built in the Vista Ridge subdivision. Plans are in motion for apartment style residences as well. 

In addition to residential properties, one third of the development has been dedicated for recreational purposes, including ponds, trails, a disc golf course, and a dog park.
