Wapello Fire and Rescue released their response summary for 2022 last week. Responding to 440 calls for service in the calendar year, they surpassed the previous record of 398 calls.
According to the summary, 354 of the total calls were for emergency management services. The other 86 calls were for fire and rescue, and included 17 calls for brush or field fires, 16 vehicle accidents, and 14 building fires. Wapello Community Ambulance, their partners in emergency response, responded to an additional 624 calls in 2022.
Wapello Fire and Rescue is a volunteer department founded in 1897. With the slogan “Crew 1st, Mission Always!” they serve the city of Wapello and the surrounding townships.
