The WACO Warriors claimed a pair of rivalry basketball wins last night over New London. The WACO girls led 19-8 one quarter in and stretched that advantage to 17 points at halftime. The Warriors would cruise to a 70-39 victory, thanks largely to senior star Ellah Kissell scoring a whopping 39 points. Kissell hit six three-pointers and 15 total shots to match New London’s total output. Warriors senior Grace Coble added 11 points as WACO improves to 10-2.
The WACO boys had to work a lot harder to preserve their undefeated season. A 19-15 lead after a quarter of play was cut down to three points at halftime before New London tied the game at 45 going into the final period. WACO survived for a 68-64 win, in large part because of senior Simeon Reichenbach exploding for a season-high 19 points. Reichenbach hit a pair of triples and scored 12 of his points in the second half. Senior Odee Shtefanchuk poured in 16 points off the bench, while juniors Hunter Hughes and Colton Leichty had 14 and 11 points, respectively, to get the Warriors to 11-0. Both WACO teams next play Thursday at Hillcrest Academy.
