The Lone Tree Lions and Columbus Wildcats met up for Southeast Iowa Super Conference basketball Tuesday night. Lone Tree took a 9-3 lead at the end of the first quarter in the girls’ game, but widening that margin to 26-12 at halftime would be what allowed the Lions to pull away for good in a 52-33 victory.

Lone Tree freshman Finley Jacque continued her torrid scoring stretch of late, pouring in 23 points and knocking down four three-point field goals. Lion teammate Alyson Ford also dominated the paint, putting up eight points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots. No Columbus player scored in double figures, with freshman Kennedy Woepking’s seven points and five rebounds off the bench pacing the Wildcats. While Lone Tree improves to 4-4 in conference play and 8-6 overall, Columbus falls to 5-5 in the Super Conference North and 6-8 overall.

The Lone Tree boys also defeated Columbus 82-38, pulling away in the second quarter for a 43-21 halftime advantage that they would never relinquish. The Lions are now 2-7 in league play and 5-9 overall, while the Wildcats drop to 1-7 in the Super Conference North and 2-11 overall. While Lone Tree next travels to Highland tomorrow night, Columbus will be hosting Louisa-Muscatine tomorrow evening.
