The Mid-Prairie School Board met in regular session for the first time in the new year on Monday.
Karen Bender, Melissa Thomas, Mo Gingerich, and Kelsey Stumpf, members of the fourth grade team at Mid-Prairie West Elementary, provided the session’s Hawk Highlight. They presented data to the board and explained how they use the information to improve their classroom practices.
The board appointed their Level 1 Investigators, which included principals of each school, with Superintendent, Brian Stone, named as the first alternate. As Stone explained, “It is linked to mandatory reporting. You hope that you don’t need it, but when you do, you have to have the appropriate pieces to the puzzle ready to go so you can handle the situation.”
Dollar amounts were set for early resignation dates in the amount of $2,000 in February and $1,000 in March. The stipend gives incentive for resigning staff to notify the district as soon as possible, allowing ample time to find suitable replacements. An SBRC Request for Additional Allowable Growth for At-Risk and Dropout Prevention Programs was also approved in the amount of $253,630.
Before wrapping up the meeting with a closed session, the board discussed plans for a new track installation. Bids have not yet been received for the project, however, the goal is to begin work following the track season this year.
The Mid-Prairie Community School District Board of Education’s next meeting will be held on Monday, January 23 at 6:15 p.m. in the Central Office Community Room.
