The Highland School Board met in regular session in their first meeting of the new year on Monday.

The Board approved to allocate $1,000 for initial Prom planning, before receiving a presentation from Robotics Instructor, Tim Surine and some of his students. They spoke on their past successes and provided a demonstration for the board.

An American Flag that rolls up electronically was donated for the high school gymnasium, and discussions will continue as to where to put it. The board plans to have the flag installed by the beginning of next school year. In other action items, a junior high girls wrestling coach was hired.

A resolution for Modified Supplemental Amount for Dropout Prevention was approved in the amount of $150,000, with $50,000 to be matched by the schools. According to Superintendent, Ken Crawford, “We can ask the state for modified supplemental aid in that area. That goes towards salaries of people we have in at-risk, whether it be the teacher, whether it be an associate that helps out in that room, or whether it be supplies for those classrooms.”

Highland Community School District will hold a Facilities Committee Meeting on Wednesday, January 18 and a work session on Monday January 23. The Highland Board of Education’s next meeting will be held on Monday, February 13 at 5 p.m. in the High School Board Room.
