The Washington Demon archery teams open up the Demon Den today for area sharp shooters to compete. Washington shot at all three levels in both bullseye and 3D contests last weekend at Center Point-Urbana. In bullseye, at the high school level, Washington was third of seven teams with a 3205, Cedar Rapids Prairie won with a 3323. Lily Brown led the Demon girls with a 282 that included 16 tens to place seventh. Madison Conway was eighth with a 280. Cash Pepper led the Washington boys in 20th with a 273 that included 12 tens. The Washington Middle Schoolers were second of eight teams with a 3126, Alburnett beat the Demons by three points. Caden Higdon led the Washington boys with a 272 including 12 tens to place fourth. Mark Chenowith had a 270 for sixth. Gabrielle Andrew was the top Washington girls shooter with a 271 including nine tens for fourth. Charlee Read was eighth overall for the Demon girls with a 268. The Lincoln Demons were team champions with a 2612. Washington was led by a pair of runners-up with Jace Helfrich second for the boys with a 259 that included nine tens and Liliana Hernandez with a 247 for the girls that included seven tens. Other top 10s for the boys included Jordan Thorius fourth, Finn Plattner fifth, and Braxton Rich ninth. Miriam Pierce was sixth for the Demon girls.

In 3D last week at CPU, the Washington High Schoolers were fifth of eight teams with a 1555, Cedar Rapids Prairie won the contest with a 1668. Cash Pepper had the top Demon boys finish, eighth with a 268 that included 10 tens. Allison Rees led the Demon girls, taking sixth with a 280 and 16 tens. The Middle School Demons won the team title with a 1605, beating Alburnett by one point. Gabrielle Andrew was the individual girls champion with a 278 that included 15 tens. Other Demon girl top 10s included Charlee Read fourth with a 265, Hannah Lipski fifth at 263, Johannah Halvorson sixth at 260, Cecelia Mitchell ninth at 254 and Emma Helfrich 10th with a 254. Ethan Hotchkiss led the Washington boys with a 270 and 10 tens to take third. Mark Chenowith was fourth with a 269 and Corbin Hodson 10th at 255. The Lincoln Demons were second with a 1328, East Buchanan won the title with 1333. Liliana Hernandez won the individual girls championship with a 243 that included three tens. Other top 10s included Miriam Pierce fifth at 201 and Aryana Jones eighth with a 199. For the boys, Jordan Thorius had the top finish as runner-up with a 251 that included six tens. Jace Helfirch was sixth with a 235.

The Mid-Prairie archers will also be in Washington today. They are coming off of the Solon shoot last Saturday where they had three individual bullseye champions including Lael Seale in the middle school girls division with a 282 and 16 tens, Lara Brenneman in the girls elementary division with a 240 that included five tens and Noah Colblentz in the boys elementary division with a 257 and eight tens.

Joining the Demons and Hawks Saturday are Central City, Mount Vernon, Ottumwa, Solon, Van Buren and Williamsburg. Action continues all day today at Washington High School.
