
The Sigourney Savages swept a conference basketball doubleheader Tuesday evening at English Valleys. The Sigourney girls were tied up with English Valleys at the end of the first quarter, but the Savages were able to break free of being knotted up at eight to take a 17-12 lead at halftime, and they kept the Bears at bay the rest of the way in a 43-37 victory.
Sigourney junior Carly Goodwin led the scoring with 16 points and added six rebounds and three steals. Senior Zoe Webb posted eight points, eight rebounds and two steals, while sophomore Josephine Moore pulled down 11 boards and swiped three steals to help the Savages win their fourth straight and improve to 12-7.
The Sigourney boys led by single digits for most of the first half, but English Valleys turned the table to take a 36-34 lead into the final period. The Savages would ultimately rally to win 51-46. Sigourney improves to 10-9. Both Savage squads next play tomorrow night against Belle Plaine.
