A number of Southeast Iowa Super Conference wrestling teams hit the mat for multiple duals last night. The best evening belonged to the Columbus Wildcats, who won all three of their duals in Riverside. Columbus knocked off the host Highland Huskies 56-12 and defeated Louisa-Muscatine 58-24 before rounding out the night with a 51-27 victory over West Liberty.

No single wrestler won more than two bouts across the trio of duals for Columbus. Sophomore Riley Kaalberg pinned both of his opponents at 182 pounds, as did freshman Trevor Phillips at 132. Senior Dante Zuniga picked up a pin and won a 3-1 decision at 145 lbs, while junior Cole Storm won a 13-2 major decision before pinning his other opponent at 160. The Wildcats also got major-decision victories from sophomore Jacob Nelson at 106 and junior Cael Phillips at 138. Additional pins to win came from junior Ty Scorpil at 120, freshman Alex Venzor at 138 and senior Kai Malone at 220.

The Highland Huskies suffered an opposite fate in their home gym, dropping all three of their duals. Along with the loss to Columbus, Highland fell 36-30 to Louisa-Muscatine and 54-12 to West Liberty. The Huskies didn’t get the chance to send many wrestlers to the mat, but one who did was senior Carlos Valenzuela. The fourth-ranked grappler in Class 1A at 132 lbs improved to an impressive 41-1 by pinning both of his opponents. Freshman Brock Thomann did the same at 126.

The WACO Warriors came away with just one dual win at Mediapolis last night, defeating the Lone Tree Lions 47-6 before falling 54-24 to Mediapolis and losing 57-24 to Burlington Notre Dame. Sophomore Louden Huisenga picked up a pair of pins at 170 lbs to improve his record to 37-6. Junior John Mclaughlin got one win on a technical knockout at 126, while seniors Drew Diers and Tigran Bayatyan added pins at 220 and 152, respectively. Lone Tree did not have any individual head-to-head winners in duals.
