Ten local girls wrestlers stepped on the mat Thursday at Xtream Arena in Coralville for the first ever Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union state wrestling tournament, and when the dust cleared following more than 10 hours of wrestling, two will return for action Friday.

The Washington Demon’s Teegan Sultentich at 155lbs and Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk’s Gabi Robertson at 100lbs remain alive in the wrestleback side of their respective brackets. Sulentich was 3-1 on day one with a pair of falls and a major decision, Robertson 2-1, racking up a pair of pins.

Others who competed but were eliminated Thursday included Mid-Prairie’s Grace Conway and WACO’s Bralyyn Wagler, both going 2-2, Mid-Prairie’s Ellie Brenneman, Mia Garvey and Ellie Callahan and WACO’s Rylee Rice and Grace Fort who all went 1-2 and Highland’s Angelina Roling also competed in a pair of matches.
