The Washington Demons suffered a pair of losses in a home basketball doubleheader against Williamsburg Monday. That included the Washington boys’ three-game win streak coming to an end in a 77-50 defeat. Williamsburg’s 19-8 lead at the end of the first quarter nearly doubled, as the Raiders pushed their advantage to 39-18 at halftime and never looked back.
A couple of Demon players rallied in the second half to put together strong offensive games. Sophomore Logan McDole scored a team-high 14 points and handed out a team-high four assists. Senior forward Ajay Six posted 12 points and five rebounds, while classmate Ethan Patterson added 11 points, four boards and two dimes as Washington falls to 10-8.
The Demon girls also lost to Williamsburg 46-35. Washington rallied from down two after a quarter of play to tie the game at 17 at the half. But a 22-8 run from the Raiders in the third quarter allowed Williamsburg to seize control for good.
Senior Alex Murphy had a big night for the Demons with 15 points and eight rebounds, but Washington drops to 7-13. While the Demon boys will complete their regular season in their next game Friday night against Keokuk, the girls hit the road to start the postseason Saturday night against Davenport-Assumption.
