The Winfield-Mt. Union Community School board met in regular session on Monday. In their first item of general business, the board extended their Shared Baseball Agreement with Columbus Community School District for the upcoming season.

An architect service fee agreement was also approved. Superintendent, Jeff Maeder tells KCII, “That’s for some work we’d like to do to upgrade our kitchen area.” WMU will be working with Klinger & Associates.

The board moved to raise preschool tuition rates for the 2024 fiscal year from $105 per month to $125 per month. Maeder added, “We haven’t had any fee increases there for a couple years. That’s just costs of everything has gone up over the last few years, so we’re still pretty reasonable I think.”

Discussions were held on the Shared Superintendent Agreement with Columbus Community School District for next school year. The WMU board voted to continue sharing a superintendent, but the discussions still need to take place for Columbus.

With lower enrollment numbers, the board started to take a look at class size recommendations, particularly at the elementary level. Conversations will continue, as no decisions have been taken.

The Winfield-Mt. Union Community School Board of Education’s next meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 8 at 6 p.m. in the school library.
