On Monday, Rhonda Clough, outgoing President for the Lake Darling Saddle Club, spoke to the Brighton City Council, providing updates on the program.
In 2022, the Saddle Club held four Point Shows on May 28, June 11, July 10 and July 30. The shows featured 142, 136, 131, and 207 entries, respectively. The July 30 show was one of the program’s largest in recent years.
Last year’s Club Royalty included Lil Miss, Virginia Helterbran, Little Buckaroo, Braxton Helterbran, All-Around Cowboy, Braydon Clough, Junior Queen, Chelsea Smith, and Senior Queen, Carsen Mellinger.
Clough spoke with the board about repairs they are hoping to make to the arena grounds before the 2023 show season. “We know about the leaning light poles,” she said. “We have contacted and made plans to have Ace Electric come out and set those poles and redo that north side.” Clough also remarked on the Saddle Club’s search for donations or grant applications to aid in the approximately $1500 project. “It is not going to be cheap for us,” she acknowledged.
Clough closed out her update by inviting the public to attend the Lake Darling Saddle Club’s Awards Banquet and Member Meeting. The event will be held on Sunday, February 26 at 1 p.m. at the Brighton City Hall.
