The Sigourney Savages started the girls’ basketball postseason with authority, racing past Moulton-Udell 65-12 in the first round of the Class 1A Region 8 tournament. Sigourney couldn’t have started the game any better, leading 34-1 at the end of the first quarter and riding that momentum all the way to an eighth consecutive victory.
Four players finished in double-figure scoring for the Savages, led by senior Rain Barthelman’s 13 points. Junior Carly Goodwin finished with 12 points, five assists and nine steals, while sophomore Josephine Moore collected 12 points, six rebounds and four steals. Junior Erin Dawson added 12 points and three boards off the bench as Sigourney improves to 16-7. The Savages will look to stay red-hot when they head to North Mahaska Tuesday for the 1A Region 8 quarterfinals.
