The WACO Warriors saw their girls’ basketball season come to an end with a 57-41 loss to Burlington Notre Dame last night in the Class 1A Region 8 quarterfinals. WACO’s 14-9 deficit at the end of the first quarter was duplicated in the second period, leading to a 29-18 lead for Notre Dame at halftime. The Warriors were able to cut the margin down to nine points entering the final quarter, but a 16-9 run from the Nikes sealed the deal.
WACO had no answers for the deep shooting of Notre Dame junior Lauren Krieger, who hit five three-pointers and scored a game-high 19 points. Senior Ellah Kissell led the Warriors with 13 points, but it was not enough to keep WACO from ending the season with a record of 18-5. Along with Kissell, the Warriors will also graduate seniors Grace Coble, Katie Leichty and Natalie West.
