The season is on the line for the Washington Demon boys’ basketball team, as the Demons host rival Fairfield in the Class 3A Region 6 quarterfinals tonight on KCII. Both teams come in with a record of 11-9, but Washington has won both meetings earlier this season.

The Demons won four of their final six regular-season games, thanks largely to Ethan Patterson. The senior guard is averaging 19 points a game in his final season, and he’s saved his best for last, shooting over 40 percent on three-pointers. Sophomore Logan McDole has picked up his scoring of late, averaging 11 points over his last 10 games, while seniors Aden and Ajay Six both put up double-figure scoring and are combining to average 11 rebounds per game. Washington head coach Collin Stark tells KCII Sports they’ll need all hands on deck for their first postseason game.

“It’s gonna be a battle,” Stark says. “We’ve had good games against Fairfield, and I don’t expect Monday to be any different. It’s just all about who’s playing best that night and making sure that we limit their runs and limit their three main scorers, limit their touches as best as we can and see where that gets us.”

Fairfield is led by seniors Max Weaton and JJ Lane. Weaton posts better than 20 points and 14 rebounds per contest, while Lane scores better than 18 points a game and shoots over 46%. The Demons will try to down the Trojans for a ninth consecutive time. You can hear Washington battle Fairfield in the Class 3A boys’ basketball playoffs this evening on 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on KCIIradio.com, beginning with the Washington HyVee Pregame Show at 6:30.
