Seven local wrestlers made their way to the medal stand at last weekend’s Iowa High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
In Class 1A, the top finish from the KCII listening area went to Jack Clarahan of Sigourney-Keota, placing third at 170 lbs. His teammate Reanah Utterback joined him on the podium, taking eighth at 106lbs. In doing so, she became only the second girl to medal in the history of the IAHSAA traditional tournament.
The Highland Huskies put a pair on the podium Saturday. Carlos Valenzuela, at 132 lbs. finished in sixth place. At 120 lbs. for the Huskies, Luke Guseman was eighth.
The WACO Warriors have hardware coming home this week. At 113lbs, Gage Samo finished in sixth.
In Class 2A, at 120lbs, Washington’s Aaron Boone represented the Demons in sixth place.
Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union’s Russel Coil climbed to sixth on the podium at 285lbs.
A total of 22 wrestlers from southeast Iowa competed including Washington’s Caden Greiner, Chase Greiner and Curtis Stender, Mid-Prairie’s Terry Bordenave, Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union’s Dante Zuniga, Triston Miller, Cole Storm and Kai Malone, Highland’s Jack Peiffer, Sigourney-Keota’s Brady Clark, Dan McLaughlin, Reid Molyneux and Jake Moore and WACO’s Louden Huisenga and Drew Diers.
