The Winfield-Mount Union girls’ basketball team is headed to state for the first time in 25 years. Eighth-ranked WMU defeated No.13 North Mahaska 52-47 on Thursday in the Class 1A Region 8 final, securing their place in this year’s state tournament. Winfield-Mount Union will play in the Class 1A state quarterfinals against North Linn Wednesday evening.
