It was a busy weekend for the archery teams of Washington Community Schools at this year’s Iowa archery state championships in Des Moines. Washington High School finished 13th as a team in both the bullseye and 3D competitions. Josh Anderson led the Demons by finishing 13th overall in the bullseye tournament. The freshman’s score of 288 was also the 10th-best score among high school shooters and third among ninth-graders. Jonathan Moore had the fifth-best score for high school seniors on the bullseye, while fellow senior Hayden Janecek was ninth in his class for the Demons’ top finish in the 3D field.

Lincoln Elementary had the best team finishes, taking second in the 3D standings and and third on the bullseye. Two fifth-graders with eighth-place finishes in the grade-school bullseye category led Lincoln, Jordan Thorius for the boys and Miriam Pierce for the girls. Fourth-grader Carter Higdon was eighth in his class. Thorius was also eighth among fifth-grade boys and fifth-grader Jace Helfrich was ninth among all elementary boys in the 3D, while fifth-graders Madalyn Roundy and Liliana Hernandez took seventh & eighth almost all grade-school girls respectively. Addyson Neer’s third-place finish for fourth-grade girls in the 3D rounds out Lincoln Elementary’s top performances.

Washington Middle School finished sixth as a team in 3D and fourth on the bullseye. Seventh-grader Gabrielle Andrew had the best finish, taking seventh among all middle-school girls in bullseye shooting and fifth in her class. Emma Helfrich was ninth for eighth-grade girls, while Mason Pierce finished seventh for sixth-grade boys.
