Washington Demon girls’ basketball made some serious progress this season, starting the campaign 6-3 and finishing with more wins than they’d had over the previous two seasons combined. The team’s top three scorers were recognized for leading that charge, as they all earn All-Southeast Conference honors. That includes senior forward Alex Murphy, who was third in the Southeast in rebounding and free-throw shooting on her way to a second-team selection. Murphy averaged almost nine-and-a-half points and eight-and-a-half rebounds per game.
Two impact freshmen who started every game for Washington this season also take home all-conference accolades. Point guard Adalyn Long finished fifth in the conference in assists and led the Demons in scoring, averaging better than 9.5 points, 2.5 assists and two steals per contest. Fellow first-year guard Leighton Messinger is an honorable mention after putting up over seven points and five rebounds a game.
