Case Field will be buzzing for the first time this spring when the Washington Demons host the annual Steve Roth Relays Thursday. This is the first outdoor event for the Demon boys, who have had success on the indoor circuit so far this year. At the Dickinson Relays in Cedar Falls, Washington was led by Cameron Vongpanya going 25th in the 400. At the IATC State Meet in Ames, the Demons broke out. Washington finished third in Class 3A. Elijah Morris won the 400m and took third in the 60m. Brayden Hartman won the shot put competition and the Demon 4×400 team placed second with the shuttle hurdle team third. Last week was another big indoor meet for the Demons at Wartburg. Morris won the 200 and Micah Rees was the 800 champ. Hartman was shot runner-up. In relays, The 4×200 team of Ethan Patterson, Vongpanya, Alec Ulin and Jude Brown were champs. So were the 4×400 team of Ulin, Logan McDole, Patterson and Morris. The 4×800 team of Drew Horak, Sawyer Tschantz, Micah and Andrew Rees were third.

Other area schools competing tonight include the Columbus Wildcats. Coach Scott Dennler and the guys started the outdoor season Monday, hosting and winning their own early bird meet. The Wildcats rolled up 212 points with nine event titles. Individually, Kaden Amigon won the 100 and 200 races. Triston Miller was the 110 hurdle and high jump winner. Damian Vergara won the 800 title. Russel Coil swept the throws, winning shot and disc titles. In the 4×100 it was the team of Amigon, Jeff Hoback, Miller and Riley Kaalberg beating the field. In the 4×800 Vergara, Bryan Tlatenchi, Cole Storm and Tim Hills-Carrier were winners.

Winfield-Mt. Union will be in Washington and was also at Columbus Monday to start the outdoor season where they finished third as a team. The Wolves had three championship events on the night with Cam Buffington taking the long jump, Kohlby Newsom the mile and Gabriel Hemsworth the 400 hurdles.

This will be the outdoor opener for the WACO boys who last ran at Central College in Pella over the weekend. The Warriors saw Simeon Reichenbach go double gold in Dutch country, scoring wins in the 60m hurdles and long jump. The WACO shuttle hurdle and 55m shuttle relay teams were also champs in Pella.

The Keota Eagles have had just one indoor tune-up, running at Tuesday’s South Iowa Cedar League Indoor Championship meet at Grinnell.

Joining those area schools tonight are Cedar Rapids Prairie, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Carlisle, Danville, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Iowa City High, Iowa City West, Mediapolis, Monticello, Mount Pleasant, Ottumwa, Wapello, and West Burlington. Action begins at 3p.m. and continues into the evening at Case Field in Washington.
