At the Washington City Council meeting last week, Washington Police Chief Jim Lester gave the annual report on the Police Department. Officers managed more than 5,000 calls for service during 2022 and completed more than 650 incident reports. The members of the Police Department have over 150 years of combined public safety experience with a wide range of specialty training and involvement with specialized teams. In 2022, officers received over 400 hours of training. Training in 2022 included: De-escalation, Implicit Bias, Diverse Communities, Bias Prevention, Hazardous Materials, Hazard Communication, Officer Mental Health Awareness, Taser recertification, firearms recertification, and Case Law updates.
