The Columbus Wildcat girls’ soccer team opened a new season with a 2-0 victory at West Liberty Monday evening. Junior Lecet Quiroz and freshman Dahlia Valdez came up with first-half goals, while Columbus got a sterling performance from junior goalkeeper Alynna Leos, who stopped all 10 shots on goal she faced in a clean sheet.

The Sigourney-Keota boys ran into a similarly close match in their opener, but they were not as fortunate, losing 1-0 in an overtime thriller. SK will look for a bounce-back when they travel to Central Lee tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Columbus girls are next in action at Washington tomorrow night.
