This week, the Iowa Workforce Development released the unemployment data in the state for the month of February. While the numbers show higher unemployment rates from February of last year, a majority of counties in southeast Iowa saw a decrease from January.

Highest unemployment rates in the area came from Louisa County at 4.4 percent and 4 percent in Keokuk County. This was followed by 3.5 percent in Washington and Iowa Counties, 3.4 percent in Henry County, 2.8 percent in Jefferson County, and 2.3 percent in Johnson County.

From January to February, the state of Iowa saw a decrease in unemployment by .1 percent, bringing the total down to 2.9. During that time, 300 jobs were added, following a historic January in which 7,000 jobs were added to begin the year. The total number of unemployed Iowans dropped slightly to 50,100 in February, while total working Iowans increased to 1,671,200.
