While a majority of schools in southeast Iowa celebrated FFA Week at the end of February, Highland Community Schools is recognizing their chapter next week.
Students can show their support for FFA with spirit days throughout the week. Highland junior, and Chapter Reporter, Kerra Longbine explains, “We also have some dress-up days planned. Monday we have flannels, Tuesday we have USA, Wednesday we have western, and Thursday is blue and gold day.”
Festivities begin on Monday, April 3 with the annual Ag Olympics. Students will participate in a variety of competitions such as the “Redneck Rumble” dodgeball tournament. Monday also kicks off the “Kiss the Critter” event. Money will be collected in the penny-war style fundraiser, with proceeds going towards a local animal shelter. At the end of the week, the staff member with the most money in their jar will have to kiss a guinea pig.
Tuesday, April 4 will see students put on a teacher appreciation activity and Wednesday, April 5, FFA students will host carnival games during lunch. Thursday, April 6 is the Highland FFA Community Breakfast at the school. All are welcome to attend the free event from 7-8:15 a.m., with free-will donations put towards the “Kiss the Critter” fund.
