Washington County received an audit report from State Auditor Rob Sand on Thursday. Sand reported eight findings related to the receipt and expenditure of taxpayer funds. The findings address issues such as lack of segregation of duties, lack of independent review to ensure the accurate reporting of capital assets and, lack of policies and procedures over computer systems. Sand provided the County with recommendations to address each of these findings. The County’s revenues totaled $30,380,872 for the year ended June 30, 2022, a 6.9% increase over the prior year. Expenses for County operations for the year ended June 30, 2022, totaled $24,932,626, a less than 1.0% increase over the prior year. The significant increase in revenues is due to an increase in contributions from the Iowa Department of Transportation for road infrastructure. Sand noted that there were no non-compliance instances from the County.
