A Fairfield man was sentenced to over 11 years in federal prison last Thursday. Twenty-seven-year-old Logan Rhinehart pled guilty last year to one count of prohibited person in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of a stolen firearm.
Rinehart had previously been convicted of felony burglary, escape, and theft, which prohibits a person from possessing any firearm. In January of last year, law enforcement located a stolen .22 caliber firearm under circumstances which indicated it had been stolen by Rhinehart. Later that month, officers attempted a vehicle stop on Rhinehart after observing him driving a stolen vehicle. Rhinehart attempted to flee, driving at speeds in excess of 113 miles per hour before crashing into a snow drift. He then attempted to flee on foot and was soon after apprehended.
While fleeing, Rhinehart threw a 40 caliber pistol out of the vehicle. The pistol, which was observed as stolen, was later recovered from the scene. Further evidence showed that between January 13 and January 28 of last year, Rhinehart burglarized two separate homes and stole numerous items, including two firearms.
Rhinehart was sentenced to 136 months in prison and must serve a three-year term of supervised release following imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system.
