The Kalona Golf Course plays host to a 10-team, 18-hole invitational Tuesday when the Mid-Prairie boys host their Golden Hawk Invite. Mid-Prairie enters play with a 3-2 record after dropping a dual at Tipton yesterday 157-167. The Hawk’s team score tied their low round for the year. This season, Mid-Prairie has a team average of 172 per nine holes, led by freshman Bryce Henry and junior Drew Schlabaugh each at 42.
The Washington Demons and head coach Collin Stark will travel to Kalona today. The Demons are off to a blistering start in 2023. They were Keokuk meet champions Monday, as they took down conference foes Mount Pleasant, Fort Madison, Fairfield and the home Chiefs with a 156 score. On the year, the Demons have a 154 average per nine holes, fifth in Class 3A. Their 145 against Fairfield earlier this year is the second best team 3A round in the state. Individually, Washington is paced by Roman Roth with a 36 average per nine holes, third in Iowa. The Demons beat the Hawks head to head earlier this year 158-176.
The Highland Huskies will be in Kalona as well today. Head coach Travis Riggan and the crew finished third in their lone event so far, a home triangular against Hillcrest Academy and Wapello. The Huskies shot a team score of 242 with Peyton Yeggy’s 51 the low card for the Dogs.
Other teams joining the fray in Kalona today include Durant, Louisa-Muscatine, Mount Vernon, Iowa City Regina, West Branch, West Liberty and Wilton. Action starts at 12:30 this afternoon and continues the rest of the day in Kalona.
