The Washington Demon girls’ track and field team put together another strong showing at yesterday’s Timm Lamb Pen City Relays in Fort Madison. Washington was second in the team scoring in the Class A division, just 19 points behind Mount Pleasant, thanks in part to three winners. Freshman Iris Dahl was one of those Class A champions, taking the 800-meter run in two minutes and 28 seconds while also finishing second in the 3,000 meters. Dahl ran a leg on Washington’s winning four-by-400-meter relay team, joining senior Grace Voss and sophomores Lauren Horak and Eden Levetzow to win the race in 4:27.
Voss was the Class A winner of the high jump, clearing an even five feet. Voss also ran with Levetzow, senior Nevaeh Brown and junior Ada Kendall on the distance medley team that was second. Demon freshman Leighton Messinger was a runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles while also teaming up with sophomore Kendall Hinrichsen and fellow freshmen Leighton Salazar and Ryen Pepper to take third in the shuttle hurdles relay. Horak joined junior Amelia Dahl and sophomores Isabella Lujan and Quincy Griffis to take fourth in the 4-by-800, while Brown, Kendall and Messinger ran with junior Emery Walton to earn a fourth-place finish in the 4-by-100.
The Demons also got individual third-place finishes from Salazar in the long jump; freshman Taylor Miksch in the 400; Griffis in the 1,500; and senior Alex Murphy in the shot put.
