The Washington Demons closed out another week of track and field on a high note Thursday, with the boys picking up four victories at the Denny White Relays in Mount Pleasant and the girls winning the team title at the Rocket Relays in Eddyville with a score of 142, eeking past host Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont by eight points.

The Washington ladies had two individual winners. Freshman Iris Dahl claimed the title in the 800-meter run with a time of two minutes 38 seconds. Dahl also ran a leg on the Demons’ winning four-by-800 relay team and was the runner-up in both the 400 and 1,500 meters. Senior Ally Rees won the discus toss, hitting a top mark that was one inch shy of 102 feet. Rees was also fourth in the shot put.

Washington senior Grace Voss came in second in the 200 and third in the 400. Sophomore Quincy Griffis had similar success in distance events, taking second in the 3,000 and third in the 1,500. Freshman Ryen Pepper finished third in the 400-meter hurdles, while junior Emery Walton and senior Kadence Howell were fourth in the 100 meters and the discus, respectively. The Demons came in second in the shuttle hurdles relay while also taking fourth in the 4-by-100 and third in both the 4-by-200 and 4-by-400.

The Washington boys got another strong outing from junior Alec Ulin, who won his second straight 400-meter dash by taking the Class A title in 51.27 seconds and was also runner-up in the 200. Senior Brayden Hartman won the discus with a top toss of 149’4″ and was second in the shot put, while the Demons also picked up two relay wins. The 4-by-800 team won with a time of 8:29, while the shuttle hurdles squad finished in 1:04 but only won by five-one-hundredths of a second.

Junior Micah Rees put another top result on the board by finishing second in the 1,600, while sophomore Tyler Alderton was third in the 3,200. The Washington boys were also third in the distance medley and fourth in the 4-by-200. Next up for both Demon squads is the annual Panther Relays Tuesday in Mount Pleasant.
