Community members and local officials gathered on Friday for the final Legislative Briefing in Washington County. State Representative Heather Hora and State Senator Dawn Driscoll began the event with an update on the projects they are working on and the committees they sit on. After this update, the crowd was able to ask a question or make a remark that would be responded to by the legislators. One of the topics that was touched on multiple times was the property tax bills. State Senator Driscoll addressed this topic, “The property tax relief bill. So I’m sure a lot of you have got your letters in the mail over the last couple of weeks, and like we have said over and over again that we have heard from so many people that, you know, they are looking for the property tax relief. I know in the Senate that our ways and means chairman have been working with the house ways and means chairman, and they are trying to come to an agreement on which bill they are going to take up this year because I know that there are different pieces of like the senate bill and different pieces of the house bill that are good. All the property tax bills are alive, and so they’re just trying to figure out which one is going to be the best piece of legislation that will come through this session.” All in attendance were able to ask a question or make a comment to the representatives. After the briefing, attendees were invited to learn more about Washington County Hospital and Clinics and go on a behind-the-scenes tour of their facilities.
