The Winfield-Mount Union golf teams took on conference rival Wapello Thursday at Heritage Oaks Golf & Country Club. The WMU boys came up only four strokes shy of matching Wapello after posting a total team score of 182. Wolves junior Carter Loyd was the meet medalist, shooting a three-over-par 39. Senior Andrew Brown was tied for third with a 45, while sophomore Jake Edwards fired a 48 and freshman Nick Sparrow put up a 50.

On the girls’ side, senior Anna Anderson led WMU with a 54, while junior Lily Freeman was just one stroke behind. Winfield-Mount Union golf will have both teams return to Heritage Oaks for the Wapello Invitational on Wednesday. The Wolf boys will play before then tomorrow at Durant.
