At the Washington City Council meeting on Tuesday, Mayor Pro Tem Millie Youngquist made the proclamation that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month for the City of Washington. She states, “Whereas Sexual Assault Awareness Month calls attention to the fact that sexual violence is widespread and impacts every person in this community, and whereas the goal of Sexual Assault Awareness Month is to raise public awareness about sexual violence, and educate communities about how to prevent it.” The theme of Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2023 is “Drawing Connections: Prevention Demands Equity.” Drawing Connections recognizes that it will take ending all forms of oppression to end sexual harassment, assault, and abuse. It calls on all individuals, communities, organizations, and institutions to change ourselves and the systems surrounding us to build racial equity and respect.
