Four Mid-Prairie teams are in action Thursday. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team hosts their annual 18-hole Golden Hawk Invitational tonight at the Kalona Golf Course. Mid-Prairie finished second Tuesday at West Branch in a River Valley Conference triangular with the Bears and Wilton Beavers, shooting a team score 206, led by Addison English with a 48. On the year, the Hawks have a team average of 197 per nine holes, led by Gabi Robertson at 45. Joining the Golden Hawk girls today in Kalona are Durant, Fairfield, Keokuk, Iowa City Regina, Tipton, West Branch, West Liberty, Williamsburg and Wilton. Action begins at 12:30 today and continues through the afternoon and evening.
The Mid-Prairie girls track team hosts their Golden Hawk Relays tonight in Wellman. The Hawks were team champions at the Tipton Co-Ed Relays Tuesday night with team score of 113 points. Mid-Prairie posted three event championships at Tipton including Tabitha Evans in the 400, Danielle Hostetler in the 1500 and the 4×100 team of Madeline Schrader, Amara Jones, Jovi Evans and Tabitha Evans. Joining Mid-Prairie at their home meet tonight are Alburnett, Fairfield, Mediapolis, Pekin, West Branch, West Liberty and Williamsburg. Action gets underway with field events at 4:15 and continues into the evening at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman.
The Golden Hawk boys track team travels to the Cardinal Invitational in Newton tonight. Mid-Prairie claimed the team championship at their home Golden Hawk Relays on Tuesday with 146 points. Mid-Prairie had eight championship events on the night, led by a triple gold evening for Jayden Stafford as he swept the wheelchair 100, 200 and 800. Emmett Swartzentruber won the two mile, and Jayse Yoder the 800. In relays it was the sprint medley team of Kaden Meader, Landon Sullivan, Jayse Yoder and Cain Brown breaking the tape first. In field events, Brown won the long jump and Burke Berry the shot put. Joining the Golden Hawks tonight in Newton are ADM, Ames, Grinnell, Nevada, Oskaloosa, PCM, Perry, Saydel, South Tama and the home Cardinals. Action starts with field events at 4:15 and continues into the evening at Lynn Stadium in Newton.
The Mid-Prairie girls soccer team steps outside of River Valley Conference play tonight when they travel to Solon. The Golden Hawk girls stand at 5-1 on the year after a shut out win over West Branch Monday 6-0, led by a pair of goals from Elise Gingerich. This season Mid-Prairie has outscored their opponents 20-5. They are led individually by KCII JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week Sophia Baker’s seven goals. Kina Miller leads the Hawks with five assists, she also has a team best 35 saves in goal. Solon is 4-2 on the season. They were 11-0 winners over South Tama Monday. The Lady Spartans are ranked No. 6 in Class 1A this week in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Solon has outscored their opponents 15-4 this year and are led by Rose McAtee with four goals. Alex Paisley has made five saves. Solon has won all nine meetings between these schools dating back to 2011 including a 2-0 playoff win in 2022. Action starts tonight at 5:30p.m. At Spartan Stadium in Solon.
