Columbus Wildcat senior Grant Watson’s strong day and the Winfield-Mount Union boys claiming runner-up honors in team scoring were the big highlights from the Wapello Golf Invitational Wednesday at Heritage Oaks Golf & Country Club. Watson shot a 20-over-par 92 over 18 holes, the best score by a non-Wapello player in the field.

WMU junior Carter Loyd was tied with Watson for fifth, with Wolves senior Andrew Brown one stroke behind in eighth and sophomore Jake Edwards shooting 95 to finish ninth. WMU freshmen Max Edwards and Nick Sparrow each shot 103, while classmate Konner Kinneberg fired a 113. Senior Ethan Palmer finished at 111 for Columbus, while sophomore teammate Mason Heck posted a 142.
