The Washington Demon soccer teams both fell to Fort Madison last night, but the boys nearly pulled off a tremendous comeback on the road against the second-ranked team in the state. Washington fell behind undefeated Fort Madison with a goal in the 14th minute, but junior Isaac Gentry knocked in a howitzer on a free kick nine minutes later to even things up.

The Bloodhounds would grab the lead back just before halftime and added on two minutes into the second half. But the Demons responded, thanks in part to Kevin Marcelino. The sophomore scored on a deflected cross from junior Brayan Arreola in the 47th minute, then tied the match when he put home a loose ball from a throw-in in the 60th minute.

Unfortunately, Washington fell victim to a deflected free kick in the 73rd minute that would prove to be the difference in a 4-3 Fort Madison victory. The Demons fall to 4-3 in the Southeast Conference and 6-3 overall.

The Washington girls were 6-0 losers to the Bloodhounds, allowing three goals in each half. The Demons fall to 3-4 in conference play and 6-4 overall. Both Washington teams will try for the bounce-back tomorrow when they host Mediapolis for Senior Day.
