The Highland Huskies hosted their Co-Ed Relays Monday in Riverside, wrapping up regular season competition for many local schools, and they went out with a bang.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls were meet champs with 168 points, beating Tipton’s 126. The Hawks had eight event winners on the night including Ella Groenewold in the high jump at five feet. Greta Sieren’s 400 at 1:03.83. Abby Fleming in the 1500 at 5:20.00. Danielle Hostetler in the 3000 at 11:14.00. The shuttle hurdle with Amara Jones, Emily Schlabach, Behla Schmidt and Sophie Miller in 1:14.49, the 4×1 of Madeline Schrader, Nevaeh Decker, Jovi Evans and Dakota Mitchell in 57.02 seconds, the sprint medley with Schrader, Decker and Jovi and Tabitha Evans in 1:55.00 and the distance medley of Schrader, Jones, Jovi Evans and Hostetler with a meet record 4:27.69. Other top finishes for the Golden Hawk girls included Phoebe Shetler second in the 1500, second for Olivia Schlabach in the 100 hurdles, Dessa Poll in discus and the 4×800 team of Annika Poll, Hannah Rodgers, Shetler and Dessa Poll. Decker was third in the 100, Sieren third in the 800, Ashlee Farrier in the 100 hurdles and Harper Pacha in the discus. The 4×200 team of Decker, Mitchell, Lanee Duwa and Laurin Fay was third, as was the 4×400 team of Annika Poll, Sophia Schwartz, Rebekah Wallington and Grace Conway.
The Lone Tree girls were third with 72 points and crowned three champions. Ava Christofferson won the 100 in 13.08 seconds, Rylee Shield the 200 in 28.94 seconds and the 4×200 team of Avery Morarie, Shield, Vivian Zaruba and Christofferson crossed the line first in 1:51.79. Runners-up included the 4×100 team of Zaruba, Christofferson, Riley Krueger and Shield and the sprint medley with Sophie Bell, Zaruba Christofferson and Shield. Krueger was also third in high jump.
The Highland girls were fifth with 58 points. Sarah Burton claimed long jump gold with a meet record 17’9″. Other top finishes included Burton second in the 100, second for the 4×200 with Lilly Barre, Katelyn Waters, Burton and Mackenzie McFarland and second for the shuttle hurdle with Halle and Brena Hazelett, Mackenzie Davis and Adelynn Kleopfer. The 4×100 was third for the Huskies with Barre, Burton, Waters and McFarland.
WACO scored 21 points for eighth place. The Warriors were led by third place finishes for Zoey Dennler in the 400 hurdles, Jocelyn Fulton in the shot put and the shuttle hurdle team of Ally Rinner, Morgyn Leichty, Paige Schull and Dennler.
On the boys side, Mid-Prairie was the team champ with 121 points, over Tipton’s 110. The Hawks did it with seven event titles. Jayden Stafford swept the wheelchair 100 and 400s in 19.26 seconds and 1:05.40 respectively. His 400 time was a new meet record. The Golden Hawk 4×100 team of Drake Price, Landon Sullivan, Hudson Ehrenfelt and Irman Ganibegovic won in 47.25 seconds. The 4×200 of Ganibegovic, Kaden Kos, Peyton Fox and Brady Weber were winners in 1:37.58. The 4×800 was golden with Emmett Swartzentruber, Preston Yutzy, Jacob Donaldson and Thomas Flynn in 9:06.00 and the shuttle hurdle with Landry Gingerich, Kaden Meader, Grady Gingerich and Braden Hartley won in 1:07.00. Other top finishes included Ehrenfelt second in the 100, Blake Creed second in the mile and runner-up for the 4×4 with Yoder, Meader, Landry Gingerich and Swartzentruber. Yoder was also third in the 400.
WACO was sixth on the boys side with 56 points. Simeon Reichenbach won the 110 hurdles in 15.63 seconds.
For Lone Tree it was a seventh place finish with 38 points. Mayson Hemsted won the 100 in 11.67 seconds. It was second place for the 4×100 team of Domonic Garcia, Maddox Jondle, Brody Magruder and Harry Brenneman and for the 4×2 with Emmett Burke, Tyce Alt, Ethan Bockelman and Drew Gauley.
Highland had a pair of scoring events on senior night with the sprint medley of Brendan Schnoebelen, Owen Knox, Elvin Hernandez and Brayden Zyvwiec and the 4×1 with Knox, Hernandez, Jackson Schneider and Schnoebelen.
