The Washington Demons’ last warm-up before their conference track & field meet was an excellent outing, as the boys captured the team championship and the girls finished runner-up in team scoring at Monday’s Brookhart-Crew Relays in Fairfield. The Washington boys posted 137 points thanks in part to three individual winners. Junior Micah Rees was a champion again in the 1,600-meter run, this time with a time of four minutes 33 seconds. Senior Brayden Hartman also was a winner again in the discus, hitting the top toss of 149 feet even.
Demon senior Aidan Ulin had his first victory of the season in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.12 seconds, while Washington’s sprint medley team was a winner with a time of one minute 38 seconds. Hartman was a runner-up in the shot put, as was sophomore Logan McDole in the 800 meters and senior Ethan Pattterson in the 200.
Senior Jack Kleese was third in the 400-meter hurdles, while Washington was second in the four-by-800-meter relay. The Demons also got fourth-place finishes from Patterson in the high jump; sophomore Mason Morgan in the 110 hurdles; sophomore Tyler Alderton in the 1,600; and junior Kael Malichky in the 3,200.
On the girls’ side, Washington’s 125 points put them 27 behind champion Mount Pleasant. The Demons had four individual champions, including senior Grace Voss clearing five feet even to win the high jump. Sophomore Lauren Horak took the title in the 800 in 2:34, while Leighton Messinger was the champ of the 100 hurdles in 16.88 seconds and fellow freshman Iris Dahl won the 1,500 in just over five minutes.
Voss and Messinger teamed up with freshmen Taylor Miksch and Carys Miller to win the 4-by-400 in 4:25, while Washington was also runner-up in the 4-by-200, 4-by-800 and the shuttle hurdles. The sprint medley team was third, as was senior Nevaeh Brown in the 200; sophomore Eden Levetzow in the long jump; and freshmen Ryen Pepper and Nelly Ponce-Cruz in the 400 hurdles and the 200, respectively.
Freshman Lily Brown was fourth in the 200, while the Demons were also fourth in the 4-by-100 and the distance medley. Washington now gears up to host this year’s Southeast Conference Championships tomorrow at Case Field.
