The Winfield-Mt. Union Community School District was recently the recipient of four different grants.
Two such grants have been awarded to the high school’s Industrial Technology program. The first is from the South East Iowa Builders Association, which will pay for a new TIG welder and a new air compressor for the shop. The other is a STEM Scale-Up grant which will bring a drone class to the school. Industrial arts teacher, Trevor Kongable, will attend a class over the summer to learn about building and programming drones, which he will then bring to the WMU curriculum this fall.
The TAG program at Winfield-Mt. Union was also awarded a STEM Scale-Up grant for Storytime STEM-packs. They will be available for students and staff to use this fall, and will engage young learners in STEM and computer science challenges connected to popular children’s books.
The final grant was awarded to the elementary school. They received the Casey’s Cash for Classroom grant in the amount of $3,500. These funds will be used to create STEM bins for all PreK-5 classrooms.
