For the first time in school history, the Hillcrest Academy Ravens are your boys’ golf champions in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference. Hillcrest finished first in team scoring at yesterday’s Super Conference Tournament at Heritage Oaks Golf & Country Club in Wapello. In their first 18-hole tournament of the season, the Ravens’ score of 322 strokes was 29 less than second-place Mediapolis and an even 30 better than third-place Wapello.
Hillcrest senior Luke Schrock was nearly the individual Super Conference champion as well, finishing tied with New London’s Mason Shelledy after 18 holes with a score of five-over-par 77 but losing the second playoff hole and taking runner-up honors. Raven freshman Rowan Miller continued his spectacular debut season by finishing third on the leaderboard with a 79, while senior Jace Rempel was only two strokes behind in a tie for fourth.
Sophomore Liam Schrock cracked the top 10 for Hillcrest with an 85, while senior Josiah Beachy fired a 91 and sophomore Seth Ours added a 96. The Ravens have now won every event they’ve played in during this season.
A few other area golfers nearly made the top 10 in the individual standings. Winfield-Mount Union junior Carter Loyd and Highland senior Peyton Yeggy finished tied for twelfth after each shooting an 88. Columbus senior Grant Watson led his team by firing a 94.
Wolves sophomore Jake Edwards dipped under the century mark with a 98, while senior Andrew Brown was right at 100 and freshman Max Edwards was one stroke plus that. Lone Tree was paced by an even round of 100 from Oliver Altenhofen. Girls’ teams will compete in their Super Conference Tournament Monday at Heritage Oaks.
